Welcome to Charminster Pre-school

 Spring Term 2023 Admissions

Please apply by 31st August 2022

Charminster Pre-school is  a well-established charity run Pre-school which has been operating since 1971.

We are located within the grounds of St Mary’s First School in a purpose built log cabin. The light and airy play room is well resourced with specific areas dedicated to arts, crafts and sensory play, role play, reading and construction. The toys and activities are changed weekly to provide fresh interest and challenge for the children.

We have a large enclosed outdoor area. The spacious main garden is designed to benefit the children's physical development and was renovated in August 2017. The new garden features a tunnel and mound, climbing area, sandpit, circuit path and central lawn area for general play using a wide range of outdoor resources which are changed on a weekly basis. The covered patio in the main garden  ensures that outdoor play is still accessible in poor weather. The side garden is a dedicated growing garden where the children grow their own fruit, vegetables and flowers. The pathways and central area of the growing garden are gravelled, providing an excellent year-round surface for outdoor play in all weathers.  We also have access to the copse bordering the school playing field and run twice weekly forest school sessions on this site.

We were inspected by Ofsted in January 2017 and were delighted to be graded as 'Good' across all areas and 'Outstanding' in 'Personal Development, Behaviours and Welfare'.

"Staff know the children very well and meet their individual needs superbly"

"Children thrive in the very nurturing attachments they form with staff"

"Children are happy and independent learners. They show excellent confidence and perseverance to manage care tasks for themselves. They are motivated and eager to explore"

"Children's behaviour is excellent"

We have close links with St Mary’s First School, Charminster. The children in their final Pre-school year participate in a range of school based activities which support their transition into the reception class.

Thank you for making my child's time at Pre-school so special, he has really enjoyed himself and is now ready for 'Big School'.

Thank you so much for all the care you have shown my child over the last two years. It has given him a great and positive start to his schooling.

Thank you for all of your work and for making pre-school such a happy place for my child. She has learnt so much and had so much fun. I know she will miss you and so will I.
